After teaching political science at a University level for decades, Gary moved from teaching and talking big, systemic issues – to making a difference to one person at a time (to be fair, he made individual impacts on his students, too!). There are big problems to solve, and there are little problems to solve. Either way, the desire to want to help and effect change, large scale or small scale, is something holy – it’s hope. *We recorded this episode with Gary a very short time before he and his wife Lisa tragically lost their daughter, Ripley. A link to our episode from season 1 with Lisa is in our show notes. We acknowledge the depth of the word hope in our remembrance of Ripley.

A dear friend of Ridgewood, Rev. Bob Fox of CBF Kentucky, joined Pastor Molly at the table to talk about what it means to be Baptist. Our faith as baptists is not based on whims, but on careful and historical movements that preserve individual thought and autonomy from governmental and church authorities. Hear (a small part of!) the story of what it means to be baptist.

You’ll recognize a familiar voice this week! Though Pastor Molly is on sabbatical, she shares her story of calling through the podcast this week. Pastor Molly is a native Louisvillian, and shares the city she calls home with her husband, Rob, and their human son and canine son. She talks about her sense of calling – of feeling like, “this is something I can’t not do.” Have you ever sensed a calling?

In this bonus episode, we continue our conversation with Rev. Dr. Bill Shoulta about the fundamentalist takeover of the SBC and dive a little more into the history and Rev. Dr. Shoulta's experience living through it.

Welcome to Ridgewood!
As a progressive congregation, we believe that the God who created the universe, as told through the poetry of Genesis, created human beings out of a place of Love. As scripture tells us in 1 John 4:8, "God is Love." This is our starting point as individuals, a community, and a world.
In other words, all of God's creatures and all God's people are wonderfully and fearfully made, reflecting the diverse and eccentric Image of God - individually and collectively. No race, gender, or sexuality stands superior to another.
